Dontech is an AS9100D and ISO-9001:2015 designer and manufacturer of optical filters, including thin film coatings and laminations, for the high-performance display assembly and enclosure markets. Since 1971, we have designed and manufactured custom components that enhance the optical and environmental performance of displays and enclosures, including products for government installations and computers.
 
Current applications include suppression of sensitive electronic information (e.g., TEMPEST), the attenuation of external RF signals from getting through optical apertures (e.g., MIL-STD-464), improvement of display contrast, system camouflage, and ruggedization. The optics can be part of the architecture (i.e., buildings) or structure (i.e., vehicle) or included as components in portable or vehicle-mounted displays, secure radio and mobile communication systems, rugged laptops, and display systems for Homeland Security and FCC and MIL-STD complaint communication and display systems. Common enhancements include optical EMI/RFI shielding solutions for secure communication (e.g., TEMPEST) devices, contrast enhancement, and display ruggedization and structural window applications.

How We Address Your Needs

Computers and electronics produce radio frequency emissions that can disclose sensitive information or intelligence if intercepted. The EMI/RFI (EMI/RFI) shielding technologies incorporated into Dontech filters provide countermeasures to ensure information security to the highest levels, including TEMPEST requirements. For the most demanding shielding applications, Dontech typically manufactures optical shielding solutions with conductive optical grids (COG) (Mesh) which include both patterned (e.g., etched) metal films and plated woven fine wire meshes. Woven meshes are conductively electroplated, which electrically fuses the wire crossovers and greatly improves the shielding effectiveness of the mesh. The plating is a multilayer process that enhances optical and shielding performance. The outer plating layer is conductive and corrosion resistant, which greatly improves the galvanic stability of the material while minimizing photopic surface reflections. Standard Dontech woven mesh is available from 50 through 255 openings per inch (OPI) and from 80 to 160 OPI for patterned/etched mesh. In both cases, custom options are available. For lower shielding requirements and better optics, Dontech produces products with transparent conductive (e.g., ITO) coatings (TCC) with resistances as low as <1 ohm/square and photopic transmission > 97% (conductivity, substrate, and enhancement dependent). This allows for highly customizable shielding and optical solutions tuned to the needs of each application.
 
Dontech’s EMI/RFI (EMI/RFI) shielded products for government applications are used to enhance the performance of optical apertures of buildings, vehicles, and enclosures, as well as electronic displays (DES) (e.g., LCDs and OLEDs) and touchscreens (DTS) (e.g., 5 wire resistive and projected capacitive) so that the assembly can meet the demanding EMI/RFI shielding requirements of government applications while also improving optical and environmental compatibility performances. We have extensive in-house manufacturing and metrology/testing capabilities. For these reasons, we can tightly control and uniquely tune the performance-driving variables in our products.
 
Having specialized operational control over critical processes is an additional benefit to many of our customers. High reliability systems have very expensive qualification and requalification protocols. Dontech’s control of its performance enhancing processes (i.e., true in-house processes), allows us to support most no-change products for well over 20 years. This also gives us the unique ability to support many legacy products such as CRTs and analog displays for the program’s or product’s useful lifetime.
