For electronic display and precision optical systems used in demanding environments such as avionics, military, industrial, and medical, it is often necessary to protect the display or optical assembly from the environment (e.g., electromagnetic noise, chemicals, shock and vibration, and temperature extremes) by using optical filters. Frames and bezels are commonly used to mechanically fixture or integrate optical filters into the rest of the assembly. Optical filters can be perimeter bonded with liquid adhesives or tapes, ultrasonically welded, or clamped with gaskets into the bezel or mounting frame.
Dontech can design and manufacture machined bezels and frames to meet specific customer applications. Additionally, Dontech can purchase or use customer supplied stamped or machined frames and injection molded bezels for optical filter integrations. Frames and bezels are generally constructed of thermoplastics or metal. They can be painted and treated to minimize galvanic action or corrosion (e.g., anodization, chemical conversion coating). If needed, membrane switches, touchscreens, and graphics can also be integrated into a Dontech bezel/frame solution.
Integration and assembly can be conducted in Dontech’s class 10,000 through 100,000 clean rooms or class 1,000 through 100 work centers. Assembly may include gaskets and adhesives to mount the optical filter to the bezel/frame assembly. Conductive gaskets, adhesives, and buses can be used to provide additional EMI/RFI shielding and termination to the rest of the Faraday cage.
For coated precision optics used in cameras and imaging and targeting systems, Dontech has several potting processes for the precise alignment and mounting of the optics in support structures or frames, so they can be easily and accurately attached to the next higher-level assembly. These processes have been refined to help address precise optical requirements (e.g., wedging) and structural needs, as the end use requires.
Dontech transparent heaters used in precision optics incorporate exceptionally uniform conductive coatings. Electrical feed wires can be integrated through the mounting frames to provide power to the heater and maintain the integrity of the optics under demanding operating conditions. Our extensive in-house manufacturing and metrology/testing capabilities ensure tight control of the performance of the assembly (e.g., mechanical, environmental, electrical, and optical).
