COLORED OPTICAL FILTERS

Absorptive filters for contrast enhancement and the filtering of the transmission spectrum of light.

Applications for colored optical filters include contrast enhancement for monochrome displays (e.g., VF, EL, LEDs) via a color selective band pass or long pass filter aligned with the peak wavelength output of the display. Long pass filters are used to improve contrast and performance of optical scanners and red, yellow, and amber LEDs. Neutral density and triple notch filters and polarizers improve contrast of LCDs, OLEDs, and other full color displays by attenuating internal reflections and producing a greater delta between the display’s RGB output and the background.

Contrast Enhancement

  • Neutral Density Optical Filters (Grays & Bronzes)
  • Long Pass Optical Filters (Yellows, Ambers, Reds)
  • Band Pass Optical Filters (Blues & Greens)
  • Custom Colored Optical Filters (Triple Notch Filters)
  • Polarizers (Linear & Circular)

Band Rejection

Dontech colored filters are made with optical substrates including acrylic, polycarbonate, and glass. The coloring is produced by bulk loading the substrates with absorptive materials as an alternative technology to dichroic filters which are created by depositing a thin film coating that passes or rejects specific wavelengths of the visible, infrared, and/or near infrared spectrums. Dontech manufactures custom-colored filters utilizing many standard and custom colors and substrates.

DONTECH & Colored Optical Filters

Dontech has extensive engineering and technical support resources that can assist you with your colored optical filter design needs. Our technical staff have diverse backgrounds relevant to high-performance display and precision optics markets. For many of our top customers, we function as an extension of their engineering departments, supporting projects from concept to final system delivery. We will integrate our optical filters (OFED) and other enhancing components into touchscreens (DTS), displays (DES) and systems to the level that is needed by our customers.
